Hello Region 2 Colleagues

I am thrilled to be serving as your Region VP.  This year, I plan to work together to navigate the evolving landscape of our work, specifically by facilitating meaningful connections and conversations among members in our area. To foster relevant dialogue, we will host a series of discussion sessions to gather insights into our peers’ successes, challenges, and innovative ideas, to enhance and inform our endeavors.

As a CEIA member you have access to great resources. I encourage you to take full advantage of these.

  • Check out the Quality Outcomes Resource Hub in the Member Area for great contributions from others in the field to apply to your day-to-day. Consider submitting your own best practices as well!
  • Member Forums and Webinars are a great way to connect with other members and learn something new. Past recordings are available if you missed a session. CEIA also welcomes your contributions so get in touch if you have a topic or presentation you would like to share!
  • Experience Magazine™ features articles written by our members and now has a podcast! You can submit an article proposal through an easy online form and one of our Experience Magazine content editors will help you through the process. This is a great way to get some writing into your career portfolio.
  • Interested in research on the topic of experiential learning? Consider applying for CEIA’s research grant program. The deadline is November 1 of each year.

Every October is National CEIA Giving Month. Consider giving back to the organization by making a contribution.

About Carissa

Carissa Forde serves as the Associate Director of Student Professional Development within the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at Temple University. In this capacity, she oversees the internship program, guiding students in securing valuable internship opportunities, providing ongoing support throughout their internship journey, and instructing the associated internship course. Carissa also manages the summer internship stipend program, Pathways to Professions, which facilitates funding for students participating in unpaid summer internships. Moreover, she spearheads employer relations efforts, cultivating and nurturing relationships with organizations collaborating with CLA.

Collaborating with a dedicated team, Carissa specializes in professional development, assisting liberal arts students in achieving their career objectives and professional growth. Before her tenure with the Joyce K. Salzberg team, Carissa played a pivotal role at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, aiding medical students in successfully navigating their educational paths.

Carissa has been a steadfast contributor to higher education and Temple University over the past seven years, actively advocating for and supporting students in various capacities. She became a member of CEIA in 2022 and has since been involved in several committees, co-hosted educational webinars, and co-presented at the CEIA conference in San Diego in April 2023. Recently appointed as the Vice President of Region 2, Carissa endeavors to enhance and empower members by expanding their understanding of cooperative education.

In August 2023, Carissa achieved a significant milestone by successfully defending her dissertation for a Doctorate in Education. Her research primarily focused on exploring liberal arts students’ perceptions of internship experiences, and she utilizes her findings to champion fairness and equity in internship opportunities for all liberal arts students.
