Submit a Proposal

Call for Proposals

The Cooperative Education & Internship Association (CEIA) elevates the field of work-integrated learning through a member-driven community of educators, employers, researchers, students, and partner agencies. As the leader in work-integrated learning, we provide opportunities for professional development while advocating for best practices in co-ops, internships, and other forms of experiential education.

We rely on and truly appreciate work-integrated learning practitioners like you that take the time to develop and deliver quality professional development opportunities for our colleagues around the globe – we look forward to the amazing programming and sessions in 2025!

The Call for Proposals is closed.
Proposal submissions are under review and presenters will be notified by mid-December 2024.

What Presentation Topics Are We Looking For?

We are seeking proposals that align with our mission and six core values:

  • Excellence:  Strive for quality and innovation in program and resource delivery.
  • Diversity & Inclusion:  Value diversity and cultivate an inclusive environment.
  • Community:  Build relationships, celebrate achievements, and provide multiple opportunities for member engagement.
  • Professional Development:  Foster leadership development for the future of experiential education.
  • Stewardship:  Care for and manage the association with integrity, transparency, accountability, and thoughtful leadership.
  • Collaboration:  Develop strategic partnerships and best practices to advance the field.

No one jump-starts student success like our members and we are especially interested in reviewing session proposals that address both the nuts and bolts “foundational principles” of our work-integrated learning profession, as well as those “hot” emerging topics. CEIA members are also interested in hearing about preparing and making moves to advance in our field, so we are seeking proposals focused on career progression, such as mentorship, preparing for the next step in their career, etc.

We truly hope YOU consider submitting a presentation proposal on the policies, procedures, programs, courses, etc. that you already know inside and out. While we tend to think our colleagues already know what we know about work-integrated learning, we are looking for your expertise on how we can scale, replicate, and promote the best practices and programs that you have to offer.

Below are some suggested presentation topics based on a survey by our Professional Development Committee to the CEIA membership:

Elements of a Presentation Proposal Submission

When submitting a proposal, you will be asked to provide the following elements.

Presentation Team Members

We ask that presentation teams are limited to no more than four individuals.  The lead/coordinating presenter will be asked to input the names and contact information of their presentation team members (if applicable).

Presentation Title:

Up to 90 characters (~11-20 words)

Presentation Objective:

A presentation objective is a one-sentence statement of the session presenter(s) purpose for creating and delivering their content.

Example:
“To share with our work-integrated learning colleagues learned best practices from six years of facilitating a dual modality (virtual and in-person) one-day matched job shadowing program at a large, public institution.”

Learning Outcomes (minimum 2, maximum 5):

For conference presentations, learning outcomes inform session attendees what they can expect to demonstrate or articulate as a result of attending your presentation. Learning outcomes are important because they:

  • Facilitate learning
  • Direct conference attendees on which sessions best meet their needs
  • Convey to conference attendees exactly what is to be learned
  • Increase the chance that the presenter and learner end up in the same place of instruction
  • Serve as guidelines for content, instruction and evaluation

Example:

“Session attendees can expect to leave this session knowing the value of:

      1. Working with your campus legal and environmental health & safety departments to create policies, procedures, and forms for your job shadowing program.
      2. Leveraging your campus learning management (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) and survey platforms (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, etc.) to automate processes for your job shadowing program.
      3. Diversifying job shadow sites to align with student majors and/or career goals.
      4. Collaborating with your Alumni Association and/or Foundation to engage alumni and donors in your job shadowing program.”

Presentation Abstract

A presentation abstract is intended to capture the interest of a potential attendee. In a nutshell, the abstract is the marketing for your presentation to engage the reader by describing what your presentation is about and why they should attend. You will submit a succinct, informative and engaging abstract of your presentation (3-5 sentences/no more than 500 characters including spaces).

Example:
“To address real and perceived barriers to student engagement in sustained, high-impact experiential learning opportunities and grow students’ understanding of career readiness competencies. Employers love the opportunity to build their brand without the need to incur cost-prohibitive travel to our campus and our Alumni love the opportunity to give back through mentorship. Presenters will share policies, procedures, marketing, and lessons learned so attendees can determine if a structured, matched job shadow program could be replicated at their institution.”

Preferred Length of Presentation

You will select one of the following presentation lengths –

  • 30 minutes (20 minutes of presentation, 10 minutes Q&A)
  • 60 minutes (45 minutes of presentation, 15 minutes Q&A)

Delivery Method

You will be asked to share with the selection committee, in your own words, the primary audience that will benefit the most from attending your presentation.

Example:
Newcomers to the field, Mid-level managers, Directors, Employer relations professionals, Recruiters/Site Supervisors, Faculty, etc.

Core Values

CEIA has six Core Values.   You will be asked to indicate which of the core values your presentation proposal aligns with.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging:

As CEIA continues the work to support access, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, you will be asked to share how your proposal contributes to increasing and/or addressing access, equity, inclusion and belonging in the work-integrated learning field.

Additional Information:

The last submission field is an optional, open-ended field allowing you to share with the selection committee anything else you would like them to take into consideration as they review your proposal. Such as, this is based on thesis/dissertation research, you have received recognition/award/funding for the topic of your presentation, you can only attend CEIA’s annual conference if your proposal is selected, a peer suggested you share this information, you have delivered this presentation at a campus, local, state, regional, national, and/or international conference or this is a collaboration between peers across several institutions/employers.
